Joy Flights Gallery Port Lincoln over lower Eyre Peninsula, South Australia
Experience the nostalgic splendor, romance & excitement of flight in the “Queen” of the Golden Age of Aviation. The Weaver Aircraft company was founded in Lorain, Ohio in 1920 and their first Waco YMF came off the production line in 1935. Production ceased in 1942 and the company closed in 1947.
In 1983 the Classic Aircraft Corporation situated in Battle Creek, Michigan, reincarnated the Waco YMF bi-plane as the YMF-5C. The first FAA certified aircraft rolled off the assembly line in March 1986. Classic aircraft have successfully married modern technology, superb craftsmanship, leather upholstered luxury and today’s safety features with yesterday’s graceful design.
The Joy Flight Waco is number 96 off the new production line, having been built in 2001.
The Waco is powered by a Jacobs R755-B2 275Hp engine that was designed for the USA Military in 1934. After WW2 Radial Engines Ltd purchased unused surplus stock and remanufactured them using modern materials and systems resulting in superb reliability. The aircraft and engine look old, but are all new and state of the art.
You are going to feel power and freedom like never before. You will also see the world as you have never seen and feel what it is really like to fly – flying the way it is meant to be. A guaranteed, ‘never to forget’ open cockpit ride for you and someone special.
